Adult house training: rule out medical, then rebuild the routine
An adult dog having accidents is either unwell, never fully trained, or has learned an indoor location. Adults have the bladder control puppies lack, so the cause is almost never capacity.
Lead dimension: Memory
Routine: Two-week reset
Fixed outings 4–5 times a day for 14 days
- Get a vet check first — urinary infections and GI issues mimic training failure.
- Treat the dog as untrained: fixed schedule, supervision or confinement in between, no unsupervised roaming.
- Clean every past accident site with an enzymatic cleaner; residual scent re-cues the location.
- Reward outdoors every single time for two weeks, even if the dog has 'known this for years'.
- Expand freedom one room at a time only after seven clean days.
Know when to progress: Fourteen accident-free days before returning to full house access.

These routines assume a typical profile. Dognition's assessment shows where your dog actually sits across the five cognitive dimensions, so you can pick the method that lands first time.
