General Statement

Dognition, LLC ("Dognition," "we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it through our compliance with this Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy describes the types of information we may collect from you or that you may provide when you visit the website located at dognition.com (the "Website") and our practices for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing that information. This Privacy Policy applies to information we collect on the Website, through any mobile or web applications we provide, and in email, text, and other electronic communications sent through or in connection with the Website and such applications (collectively, the "Service").

The Service includes the Dognition website and the CanineQ application ("CanineQ" or the "App"), an AI-powered web application — offered as a Progressive Web App (PWA) accessible across platforms through your web browser — that provides cognitive assessment, longitudinal tracking, and personalized guidance for dogs. CanineQ is provided directly through the web and is not currently distributed through the Apple App Store or Google Play. References to the "Website" and the "Service" in this Privacy Policy include CanineQ unless the context indicates otherwise.

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, your choice is not to use the Service.

The information we collect

We collect several types of information from and about users of the Service, including:

  • Personal Information. Information by which you may be personally identified, such as your name, postal address, email address, telephone number, or any other identifier by which you may be contacted online or offline ("Personal Information").
  • Account Information. Information you provide when you register an account, including your username, password, and communication preferences.
  • Payment Information. If you purchase a subscription or product, billing details processed through our third-party payment processors. We do not store full payment card numbers.
  • Usage Data. Information about your connection and activity on the Service, including IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed, time spent, and referring URLs ("Usage Data").
  • Canine Data. Information about your dog that you provide or that is generated through the Service, including breed, age, sex, weight, behavior, training history, and the results of cognitive games and assessments ("Canine Data").
  • Video and Media Content. CanineQ allows you to record or upload video, images, and audio of your dog (which may incidentally capture people, surroundings, or voices) so that the App can analyze your dog's behavior and responses ("Media Content"). We use Media Content to generate your dog's cognitive assessments, insights, and reports, and to improve the quality and accuracy of the insights we provide to you. We do not use your Media Content to train artificial intelligence models. Media Content you upload is stored for your use for the duration of your active subscription.
  • AI-Generated Analysis. CanineQ uses artificial intelligence and automated analysis to interpret Canine Data and Media Content and to produce assessments, insights, reports, and interactive features (including any chat or assistant features). The outputs of this analysis are associated with your account and your dog's profile.

How we use the information we collect

We use information that we collect about you or that you provide to us:

  • To provide the Service. To present the Service and its contents to you, fulfill your requests, and deliver the products, subscriptions, and features you have signed up for.
  • To manage your account. To create and maintain your account, authenticate you, and provide customer support.
  • To communicate with you. To send administrative messages, updates, security alerts, and — where you have opted in — marketing and educational communications about Dognition.
  • To manage and improve our website and service. To monitor, analyze, and improve the Service, troubleshoot issues, and develop new features.
  • AI-Powered Features and Automated Processing. We use AI and automated systems to analyze Canine Data, Media Content, and Usage Data in order to generate your dog's cognitive assessment, longitudinal tracking, personalized insights, reports, and interactive guidance, and to improve the quality of those insights over time.
  • Scientific Research. To advance the scientific understanding of canine cognition, we may use Canine Data, Usage Data, and related User Information for research conducted by Dognition and its academic collaborators, and we may publish or share aggregated findings from this research. Any User Information used in Scientific Research is anonymized, with personally identifiable information — including owner name, address, phone number, and email — removed before such use.
  • Legal and safety purposes. To comply with legal obligations, enforce our terms, and protect the rights, property, or safety of Dognition, our users, or others.

Third-Party AI and Service Providers

CanineQ relies on third-party technology providers to deliver certain features, including artificial intelligence and machine-learning services that process Canine Data and Media Content to generate assessments, insights, and other outputs. Specifically, we use Google (Gemini) and Anthropic (Claude) as AI providers to analyze your Canine Data and Media Content and produce insights. When you use these features, relevant data may be transmitted to and processed by these providers on our behalf.

These AI providers analyze your data to deliver the Service; they do not use your Media Content or Canine Data to train their own artificial intelligence models. In addition to these AI providers, we rely on third-party providers for cloud hosting and data storage, payment processing, and analytics.

Our own future model development. While our third-party AI providers do not train their models on your data, we reserve the right to develop and train our own proprietary models using canine cognitive insights derived from the Service. Any such use will be consistent with this Privacy Policy, including our commitment to anonymize data and remove personally identifiable information as described herein.

These providers may process your data in the United States or other countries. We do not control, and are not responsible for, the independent practices of third-party providers beyond our agreements with them; you are encouraged to review their privacy policies where available.

How we share information

We do not sell your Personal Information. We may share information with service providers who perform functions on our behalf (such as hosting, analytics, payment processing, and customer support), with academic collaborators for the Scientific Research purposes described above, in connection with a corporate transaction, or when required by law.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We and our service providers use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to operate the Service, remember your preferences, measure usage, and improve performance. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling cookies may affect parts of the Service.

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Media Content is retained for the duration of your active subscription.

How You Can Change or Remove Information

  • Editing your information. You can review and update your account information and your dog's profile at any time through the account settings within the Service.
  • Deleting your account. You can request deletion of your account and associated information by contacting us or by using the in-app account deletion option, where available. Some information may be retained as required by law or for legitimate business purposes.
  • Anonymizing your personal data. You can anonymize your personal data at any time through the profile settings within the App. When you anonymize your data, we remove the personally identifiable information associated with your profile — including your name, address, phone number, and email and other contact information — while allowing your dog's cognitive data to continue contributing to aggregated, de-identified research.

Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect Personal Information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected such information, we will delete it.

International Data Transfers

We are based in the United States and your information may be processed in the United States and other countries. By using the Service you consent to the transfer of your information to countries that may have different data protection rules than your country.

Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. No method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and update the "Last Updated" date above. Material changes will be notified through the Service or by email where appropriate.
